News from the Positively Parnwell Project

Parnwell Family Project - Outstanding!

on Tuesday, 15 May 2012.

An extremely robust OFSTED inspection took place recently at Parnwell Family Project, the officer staying two hours longer than necessary and extra time with the Manager.  I am extremely pleased to report that they gained an ‘outstanding’ in all categories.  The inspector stating: ‘the promotion of equality of opportunity is a the heart of their work’.  Well done to the Manager and all her staff.

on Tuesday, 15 May 2012.

Thank you so much to all the Fair Share Panel who were so supportive of the Positively Parnwell project at the meeting last night - you know who you are - nerves of steel needed today as we await the news regarding the purchase of land for the Parnwell Community Centre project. - June - breathe!

I can assure you that just as soon as I have news on this and whether we have been sucessful in our funding bid to Fair Share I will post it everywhere.

Wooden Bridges in Parnwell

on Tuesday, 27 March 2012.

Follow the link to read a recent article in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph:

The bridge from The Keep, Parnwell has also had a new non slip painted coating.

Dobbies Garden Centre - Charity of the Year

on Monday, 19 March 2012.

I was recently forwarded some information from Dobbies Garden Centre asking me if I could think of a organisation that could become their Charity of the Year.  On reading all the rules I felt that Family Voice - a charity that has members in Parnwell, would best fit Dobbies criteria.

I am pleased to announce that I have today been told that they were successful.

Speed Sign in Oxney Road

on Monday, 19 March 2012.

The speed sign is now in place in Oxney Road and in under 24 hours 10,000 cars went over 30mph - BLIMY!

The battery has now died and is being replaced.

Life without useable broadband speed

on Monday, 19 March 2012.

Many of you who look at this site regularly will notice the absence of articles from me recently.  This has been because my broadband speed at the Community House has been non existent.  I am pleased to say that through my persistence and a particularly helpful BT Open Reach engineer called Luke - its now working wonderfully.  But it really does make you think about how much we rely on it.  I only have an on line calendar so its a good job that I still had internet access on my phone or I would not have known where I should have been!

Wooden Bridges

on Wednesday, 08 February 2012.

I have just returned from a walk about in Parnwell and I was delighted to see the first wooden bridge is now receiving its 'makeover' with great new non slip decking.  The bridge that is being done as I type is the small one that is very well used next to the Parnwell doctors and leading into the Park.  The contractors told me that the non slip decking is of a very high quality and the second bridge (behind Whittington) is scheduled to be done next week.

The concern regarding how slippery these bridges were was brought to the Parnwell Local Delivery Group only a few months ago and, working closely with Enterprise, they agreed that there was a problem and are replacing the surfaces.

A wonderful example of residents having a real say in what is needed in their own community and most importantly, being able to see a quick outcome.

Well done - and thank you to all concerned.

Speed Watch camera

on Wednesday, 09 November 2011.

Speed Watch camera now mounted in Saltersgate.  This is part of evidencing the need for some form of traffic calming measures.  We hope to get use of a second one soon and will be targetting other areas in Parnwell.  The issue of people driving at inappropriate speeds in areas of Parnwell was raised during the Planning for Real consultation by many residents and became a high priority of the Parnwell Local Delivery Group.  Working closely with the Council's Neighbourhood Officer for this area we have been able to secure the use of two cameras which actually count the number of vehicles which go over a 'set' speed.  The evidenced gained will help tremendously with this priority.
