Update from Positively Parnwell Development Co-ordinator

on Tuesday, 03 May 2011.

I have now been in this post for 10 months and whilst writing reports recently I have been reflecting on the successes achieved by the project so I thought I would share some with you.

Firstly I have been really heartened that the Community House is so busy with such a lot of daily activity.  Not only are clubs, organisations and Partner agencies using the house regularly, but we now have residents calling in to the house to ask advice or to find out what’s going on.  I believe this is partly because of our new notice board which has been placed in the centre of Parnwell, but mostly because residents are seeing so much activity at the house.

Each Monday morning Ormiston Children & Families Trust hold a Stay and Play session at the Community House, this is very well attended and often to capacity.  Monday evenings the house becomes a ‘Chill out Zone’ for 7-12 year olds where volunteers run structured activities.  This group has grown very quickly and now 10 young people regularly attend.  Each Thursday morning a group of residents who wish to improve their English come along, have coffee and a chat.  These residents are supported by members of the Skills Exchange who organise speaking activities.  The sessions are well attended and everyone seems to get something from each activity.  The local PCSO and Housing Officer hold a monthly drop in at the house on the last Wednesday of each month and the Citizen’s Advice Bureau run bimonthly drop in sessions.

One of the priorities of my role was to organise Planning for Real activities in Parnwell and to set up a Local Delivery Group to create an action plan to ensure that the suggestions made by residents were acted upon. To date
• 545 suggestions have been made
• At 10 different sessions
• By 151 residents
• Between the ages of 7 – 75
• And 10 different ethnicity groups

The first meeting of the Parnwell Local Delivery Group has now taken place and this group will continue to meet and create an action plan for Parnwell.  This action plan will feed into Peterborough City Council’s Neighbourhood Council process.  If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Clearing a Clearing

on Monday, 19 July 2010.

A group of volunteers gave up thier Sunday to create a new clearing along one of the cycleways through Parnwell. The clearing was previously open however after a few years of neglect had become overgrown, leading to some fly tipping in the bushes.

The volunteers put in a supreme effort and manage to clear the site and open it up, with its new found openness and a full clean out this clearing should make the path feel far more open and welcoming. Just take a look at the picture below to see the differrence a few local people can make in a day.
