Parnwell's Community Reporters are ready for the opening of Henshaw Park tomorrow – the camera is charged and our pens are at the ready!
Positively Parnwell
Positively Parnwell supports the local community to make their own changes, putting regeneration into their hands. The aim of Positively Parnwell is to leave a positive lasting legacy by fostering confidence, community skills, experience and networks to improve the local neighbourhood.
I am now able to report that my post has been extended to 31st December 2012 and I will therefore be continuing to work in Parnwell helping residents have a say in what happens in their neighbourhood through the Parnwell Local Delivery Group and especially the work to hopefully be able to refurbish the Parnwell Community Centre, (more about this will follow shortly). I am also working closely with partners to ensure essential services and activities required by locals are more accessible. To date successes have included:
• Ormiston Trust running weekly Stay and Play sessions at the Community House
• Peterborough Young Peoples Services having a Youth Leader presence in the area each week
• PCSO monthly surgery at the Community House
• Citizen’s Advice Bureau officer holding debt advice session for residents at the Community House
• NHS Health Trainer available to give advice to residents
Planning for Real
This is a uniquely engaging ‘hands on’ process which, by using a 3D model as a focus, enables local people to put forward suggestions to “show” how an area can be improved, or to highlight specific problems. Our 3D model has been made by the children at Parnwell Primary School.
During consultation exercises, our model of Parnwell is surrounded by ‘suggestion’ cards which have pictures on as well as words. What we ask is that residents select cards or write their own, and place these on the model. These cards are colour-coded to enable residents to see, at a glance, which are the main priorities and problems. Consultation with residents using Planning for Real has already taken place in many different venues in Parnwell. (link to calendar for dates of future sessions)
All the information from the Planning for Real consultation will be brought together into an Action Plan for Parnwell via the Parnwell Local Delivery Group (link to calendar for dates of future meetings) who will then to decide on the priorities for the area. This group will also work closely with Peterborough City Council, through the Neighbourhood Council process, to ensure these priorities are met.
This is an exciting chance for all groups in Parnwell to come together to ensure that Parnwell receives a share of the money devolved to Neighbourhood Councils for community use. If you are interested in being part of Parnwell Local Delivery Group please contact me using the details below:
